In addition to visual and [broken] dialtone indicators; reminder ring , with refresh intervals, is an option.

Hi,

There are 2 types of MWI : Solicited and Unsolicited.

Solicited means Subscribe/200 then Notify/200.

Unsolicited means only Notify/200. No need to Subscribe.

VMWI : Visual Message Waiting Indicator. LED on phone will be on/off as per "message-summary" Event "Message-Waiting" header in Notify is "yes/no".

MWI: Stutter tone will be heard when phone will be picked. This tone will be on/off as per "message-summary" Event "Message-Waiting" header in Notify is "yes/no".

Regards,
Vikas

In SIP, MWI is typically implemented using "event Notifications" according
to RFC 3265.

To receive MWI notifications you send out a SUBSCRIBE request with
"message summary" request, and you will hopefully receive a NOTIFY
whenever a new message is available in your voice box. You can then call
this voice box and listen to the recording, delete the message (probably
leading to a new NOTY), etc.

This specific application for SUBSCRIBE/NOTIFY is described in RFC 3842.

Betreff: [SIPForum-discussion] What is MWI ?

Hi all,

I search google for WMI, and know that

"A message-waiting indicator (MWI) in telephony is a feature that
illuminates an LED on select telephones to notify a telephone user of
waiting voicemail messages on most North American public telephone
networks and PBXs."

What is MWI used in SIP ?
