[SIPForum-discussion] Reg : Issue with 40 min call disconnection

Some of the SBC have configuration to define maximum-call-duration, after which they disconnect the call - but used to be very high apx 24 hrs or 12 hrs. This shouldn't be the issue unless some one has made to 40 min accidentally or intentionally.

Session Timer is not  Mandatory in SIP. However, there are ways to make it mandatory but in that case all the parties in call should support this otherwise call won't be connected.

The Session refresher is negotiated during call establishment. It could be your UA or the SBC.

If  3600 sec is refresh time them ideally the refresher should send the session refresh request after 1800 sec. If the refresher doesn't send the till 3600 sec then the other party will disconnect the call after 3600 and not before that.

Send me the wireshark traces it will be helpful in diagnosing the problem

Cheers,
Vidyut

Hi All,

I have come across one issue wherein the sip call gets disconnected within 40 minutes from the destination end. Also found that the issue was due to no session expiry parameter was set in the originating device.

Kindly clarify

1. If the originating device has no settings ( fields ) for minimum session expiry then will the SBC automatically refresh the session.

2. If 3600 is the session expiry time then at what time the re-invite should generate to refresh the session and which end should generate the re-invite ( Source or destination ).

3. Is the session expiry and min session expiry settings is mandatory on a sip call.

Kindly clarify the above points

Thanks

Sathya.
