[SIPForum-discussion] Diff between transaction and Dialog in SIP

Hi Sathya,

A transaction is a request sent by a
client transaction (using the transport layer) to a server
transaction, along with all responses to that request sent from the
server transaction back to the client.

   A dialog is a
peer-to-peer SIP relationship between two user agents that persists
   for some time.

So in a simple call scenario all messages starting from any request say
INVITE till its final response that is 200OK are one transaction. ACK is
separate transaction. And a DIALOG is typically same as call leg, that is
all messages since the first request till the call end. Although if you
search in old emails of this forum you will find many threads for this
query.

Cheers
Amit
