Subject: Re: [SIPForum-discussion] Port Number in Contact Header
The Contact header is defined in RFC3261 as providing a SIP or SIPS URI, so looking at the ABNF:
SIP-URI = "sip:" [ userinfo ] hostport
so we are looking at the hostport portion
hostport = host [ ":" port ]
so this indicates the port is optional (anything contained in [] )
Here is a link that I find very helpful in figuring these things out. Hope this helps.
/Jim

Subject: [SIPForum-discussion] Port Number in Contact Header
Hello All,
Should the port number be included in the SIP Contact header (e.g. "Contact:
<sip:1028 at 192.168.72.59:5060>")? I noticed the examples in RFC 3261 for
Contact header do not include a port number.
Best Regards,
Jerry
