[SIPForum-discussion] Port Number in Contact Header

Dear Jerry,

As far as I noticed, port number should not be included in the contact
header.

But in the special case where you are explicitly communicating on non
standard port, the port number will become essential ( somewhat similar to
web address that does not require <url>:80 but <url>:8080 requires explicit
port number). All further headers including BYE should be taken care in such
scenario.
