[SIPForum-discussion] RFC 3655 question for Record-Route?

Record-route header is inserted by a proxy to make sure any future
requests for the same dialog will go through it. This can be used for
different purposes and one of them is billing.

Hello,

So record-route is just inserted for billing purpose. Is that header not
necessary for the proxy to know about the source/destination for routing
SIP messages?

Thanks for your response,
KL

   Hi,

The SIP proxy just routes the SIP messages, so when the SIP proxy
receives a message, depending on its role, it can decide if it wants
to insert the record-route to header field. If it inserts the
record-route, the following SIP messages will be passed through it.

In this case, may be the Proxy2 is not used for billing, so it don't
care about the BYE message. Thus it does not insert record-route
   here.

Hello,

RFC 3665, last line of page 45 mentions that

(Also note that Proxy 2 does not Record-Route in this call flow.)

I am not following why the Proxy2 doesnot Record-Route here.

Also, how BOB reaches to the Proxy if RR is not included in the INVITE?

Thanks,
