Hello Prusty,
   
  S-SCSF sends 401 (unathorized) message back during registration to I-SCSF/P-SCSF simply to checkmate the subsribers datas; is this actually belong to the domain that it is registering to. This is is like ciphering in GSM/UMTS whereby when a user is doing location  update, it requires the authorisation using the information from HLR, so the S-SCSF send unauthorised message back in the first place to check with the P-SCSF if the information it got from HSS is the same as that one the subcriber is sending.

1.     during the registartion procedure I-CSCF does not add it s address in the register request when it is forwarding to the S-CSCF . so why S-CSCF sends  401 response to I-CSCF, instead it could send directly to P-CSCF . bcz it knows the 
address of P-CSCF , from the PATH heder field
