[Ng911sig] NG911 SIG kickoff and next steps

Hi Scott,

Thank you for reminder.

The phrase in your penultimate sentence, "...alarm monitoring and life-safety communications, particularly around reliable call delivery, identity preservation, and interoperability" is a use-case that deserves special attention. Likewise, the SIPNOC 2026 presentation highlighting the value and importance of reliable identity information in 911 emergency services calls to help combat SWATting.

The two use cases are important enough for there to be consideration for work in the ATIS/SIP Forum Joint Task Force on IP-NNI, and potentially in the IETF STIR working group and/or NENA as well.

The formal way of introducing new work into the IP-NNI TF is an Issue Statement. I think a relatively simple output of discussion in NG911 SIG could be two (or more) Issue Statements for the IP-NNI TF to consider.

NENA NG911 is a non-trivial architecture so I would tend towards starting with one single Issue Statement for "alarm monitoring and life-safety communications" (AM&LS) and "reliable call delivery, identity preservation, and interoperability".

An example IP-NNI TF Issue Statement is available at: Text Message Sender Identification Technology<https://access.atis.org/higherlogic/ws/public/document?document_id=83596&wg_id=8ba10810-ca63-4d03-8155-018d2489bfb6>.

Recalling that a basic requirement of STIR/SHAKEN operation was that it worked in "the IP portion" of carrier networks, I would make the same IP transport and signaling assumption for AM&LS and state the "issue" (or issues) needing a standards-based solution and something about what the solution(s) might look like.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Hi everyone,

I joined the NG911 SIG mailing list earlier this month and received the welcome message although I haven't seen any discussion or meeting announcements yet.

Are there plans for a kickoff meeting, an initial scope of work, or requests for contributions?
I'd also appreciate knowing whether anything has circulated that I may have missed.

>From the DICE / IPtelX side, we're interested in contributing operational experience from alarm monitoring and life-safety communications, particularly around reliable call delivery, identity preservation, and interoperability.

I look forward to all of our participation.
