[SIPForum-discussion] Does SIP-Softphone have a public contact, if using STUN?

Dear SIP-users,

I have a softphone behind a NAT. When it registers itself on the SIP Proxy (Registrar), the proxy keeps the Contact of such softphone with a local IP. That is, the Contact value makes sense only behind the NAT, not for peers on Internet, for example. So I ask:

1 - I intend to configure a stun server for my softphone, because I suspect that it will registers itself using a public IP for the Contact. Is my intention right? I mean, by configuring a stun server for the softphone, should it expose its public IP to the proxy, in the Contact header fields of SIP messages. Ex: SIP OK, when answering a call?

2 - I'm using ZOIPER here, as softphone. Does someone here have already configured ZOIPER to use a stun server? Did it worked like I'm intending to do?

For my case, the configuration of a stun server in my softphone doesn't take effect. I will have to look for how to make it work...

Any hint will be very helpful!

Best regards.
