[SIPForum-discussion] Query regarding SIP Registration and Call

Hi, Generally a threshold value is kept, at which re-registration request is sent. As an example, for 900 seconds of registration time, threshold value may be 895 seconds.
So even your call is running more than 900 seconds, at background phone will try to register itself (in this example at 895th second) with network. And this way call proceeds without any interruption.
Now coming to your question, assuming your call and registration start at same time so if

1. phone re-register itself again at threshold, there will be no issue in call and it will terminate if user hangs up.

2. phone unable to re-register with network at threshold (due to any issues), then network should initiate a process to disconnect the call in both the side (calling and called party)
because network also runs a timer for registered user in the network.

Behavior will same even if registration and call does not start at the same time.
In summary, it should be the responsibility of service provider to SIP phone, to disconnect the call if user is not register with that network during call or service provider can use other policy.

Subject: [SIPForum-discussion] Query regarding SIP Registration and Call

Hi,

Suppose say, a SIP subscriber is registered for 900 seconds i.e. 15 minutes.
Say, I start a call and the call duration exceeds 900 seconds.

What should be the ideal behavior?
Should the active call get disconnected? Or the Registration and Media are independent of each other?

Thanks in advance,
Srikant
