[SIPForum-discussion] SBC - Realm facing Client SIP phones (best practice)

To be honest, I don't think there is a best practice to use or not to use different IPs for signalling and media. Its all dependent on the requirements of the network.-> If you have a small subnet of public IPs you might want to use just one IP for both.-> if you want to separate the signalling and media in different vlans you will end up using different ips in different vlans-> Have come across certain deployments where the network demanded the signalling to go in the clear and rtp be encrypted. If the encryption is done on the SBC you might use different IPs to make sure the security-policies be setup properly.

I am pretty sure this is not a exhaustive list of requirements, but gives you an idea. So if you dont have any fancy requirements its good to keep it simple and use same ip for signalling and media, given the fact that the sbc you are using will  support it.

Hi Team!

Is it best practise to use different IP addresses for signalling realm and media (RTP) realm on Session Border Controller interface facing client SIP end points? If yes, why?

Thanks would need an immediate answer please!
