Hi:

All SBCs  should work as Firewalls protecting private SIP/IMS networks. 
SBCs from some vendors support several security functions .
The main functionality of an SBC (acting either as ABG or NBG) is to 
protect youre core network, NAT sip requests, and many others.
You can send media traffic from the UA-a to the  SBC and then  from the 
SBC to UA-b. This is called media  anchoring. This can be disabled
and the media traffic will take place directly from/to UA-a to/from 
UA-b. All depends on your needs.
