Hi Ashutosh,

My understanding is as follows -

1. Yes. Cancel request can be formed and sent to network after sending an Invite request provided:
    a. at least a 100 Trying has come in in response to the INVITE.
    b. a final response to the INVITE has NOT come in.

2. In this scenario a BYE must not be sent out at all as the dialog is still in "early" stages.

Please refer to section 15 (among others ) of RFC 3261 for details.

Thanks and Regards,
Arijeet

Subject: [SIPForum-discussion] [SIP Forum Discussion] INVITE request followed by CANCEL

Hi All,
Warm greeting to all of you.
I have two questions regarding Basic SIP behavior i.e. SIP2SIP call.

1. If INVITE request is followed by CANCEL request by the caller, if CANCEL will be formed and sent to network?
2. If INVITE request is responded by 180 Ringing and the caller then sends BYE request, will it be responded with 200 OK or 400 Bad Request or 481 Transaction Does Not Exist response?

Thanks in advance

Regards
Ashutosh
