I am referring to a RE-INVITE where nothing is changed in the SDP.  I am not talking about offer/answer.

Hello All,
 
We can have Re-invite in two modes:
 
1) Re-invite (without SDP ) --> 100 --> 180--> Prack-->200-->200-->Ack
2) Re-invite( with SDP )--> 200--> Ack
 
 
My question is suppose same person is sending INVITE again. Then  does the script contain 180 ringing.
Lets make it more clear.
 
UserA- Mobile UserB-server
 
Then suppose i made a call from UserB to UserA.
Then agin USerB sends Re-invite . Then the shall the script contains 180 ringing..
 
 
 
please clarify this .Any comments would be useful to me.

This issue has come up for me on a few occasions.  The purpose of the re-INVITE is to change the media characteristics.  If you send a re-INVITE without changing anything then it is breaking the spirit of the RFC, although I can't find anything that says it isn't allowed.

Can you please let us know where its shown that "we can send INivite without SDP" or if you have any docs for the same.

Hi Ranganathan,
 
 I knew that in an initial call set up we can send INivite without SDP and in 200 OK we get SDP from the far end and we can ack with SDP...
 
 I didnt know that we can have the same in reinvite..

You are corrected.

You solicit an SDP offer using a Re-INVITE without SDP. The OK should
have the SDP offer and you ACK with SDP to complete the 3-way

handshake.
