Hello Nancy,

As per the RFC 3261, 100 response is sent when proxy doesn't able to answer with the final response in 200ms. if it is able to answer then 100 is not sent. It is not mandatory response. If proxy doesn't receive any response, it will retransmit the request after 500ms, which is a default retransmission time.

Thanks
-Sumeet

Subject: [SIPForum-discussion] HELP: a question about stateful proxy

Hi all,
I have a confusion that in SIP protocol is it Mandatory a stateful proxy must send a 100 response when it receives an invite request ?? A stateful proxy will not receive request retransmissions??

if the description as before is not true , then, in which case the stateful proxy will receive request retransmissions??

Best Regards.

nancy
