Subject: [SIPForum-discussion] Use of user=param in SIP REQ URI

Hello All

Is there a standard or ETSI TS which mandates the use of user=param in the REQ URI when sending an INVITE to a IMS. Its my understanding that this is not a mandatory parameter either in RFC 3261 or ETSI TS for IMS and an IMS core should be able to handle all calls (off-net and on-net) without the use of user=param in the REQ URI as most UA (i.e. Xlite) cannot confirm if the Dialed Number is a valid Telephone number (i.e. a PSTN number) since they do not maintain the complete dial plan (prefix plan) for a region.

Regards
Amin Hussain.
