PCMA/8000 = 64kbps 
PCMU/8000 = 64kbps (American)
G.729 = 8kbps



Over the IP network these increase as you start introducing IP headers. For
example, 64kbps goes up about 80kbps and 8kbps using G729 goes up to about
25kbps. 

 

Yes, size matter as bigger packets eats your bandwidth. For example using
G729 can result into about 80 calls using IP over E1 instead of the normal
30 call per E1 using TDM (PCMA or PCMU). But if you use PCMA or PCMU using
IP over E1, the number of calls will be much less than the normal 30 because
1 call is using too much bandwidth. You can calculate it saying 2Mbps
divided by 80kbps.
