Hello Jerry et al,

SIP is a protocol, IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is an Architecture
defined by a set of standards and is intended to provide advanced
telecommunications services, it just happens to use SIP for the
Signalling. The IMS standards (produced by the 3GPP, TISPAN, IETF...)
set down how SIP (and other protocols such as H.248 and Diameter) is
used to carry out the various actions required. IMS also defines how
subscriber data is stored and represented, how applications are
triggered and a lot of other issues which are needed to build a carrier
grade telecommunications system.

Best regards
