[SIPForum-discussion] Which should be the correct behaviour?

Hello Andrea,

My thoughts on the two scenarios
Scenario 1: It seems OK provided you got a 100 trying for the INVITE. Yes, the phone should ignore the 200OK (D1) since the transaction was successfully canceled. However, the proxy should not have sent this 200OK if it responded with the 487 - terminating the INVITE request. (except if it received the CANCEL while waiting for the ACK to the 200OK)

Scenario 2: - Doesn't look right. From what you mention, it looks like the CANCEL made it to the proxy after the response to the INVITE was sent out. There should be some response to the CANCEL request at least a 481.

Regards
Sreekant Nair

Thanks everybody very much.
Herve, you are correct.

Furthermore, with one kind of phone I am experiencing this behaviour:

Scenario
1:SIP
phone sends an INVITE (D1)
SIP
phone sends a CANCEL (C1)
SIP
phone receives C1 200 OK
SIP phone receives 487 Request terminated
SIP phone sends ACK

                       SIP
phone receives D1 200 OK

                        SIP phone ignore the message

Scenario
2:SIP
phone sends an INVITE (D1)
SIP
phone sends a CANCEL (C1)
SIP
phone DOES NOT receive C1 200 OK
                        SIPphone receives D1 200 OK

SIP phone sends ack and keeps sending some CANCEL

Do you think they are correct?

Thanks,

Andrea

Hi,

I would only add that it’s
likely that SIP phone receives D1 487 Request Terminated…

Hervé

Both are not correct
scenario. Sip phone MUST not send CANCEL without receiving any
Provisional response response. If CANCEL is sent after receiving any
provisional response, then Scenario 1 is correct.
