>From address is logical address - the one which other users use to call
the person. (eg: mohan at something.com)

Contact is the original address - the one which is used for routing(eg:
mohan at 192.168.1.1)

Hi,

Thanks for the explanation.

But please tell me why an UA must have a separate >From address and a
separate Contact address?

In other words what is the use of these two addresses if they denote the
same UA?

Please clarify

Thanks and Regards,

Avishek

From is the logical address (AOR) of the sender.
The Contact header field provides a SIP or SIPS URI that can be
used
to contact that specific instance of the UA for subsequent
requests.
At most time it's IP address or hostname or GRUU of the sender.

Then what is the difference between >From and Contact?

		Both denote the same "sender"?

To and Contact is entirely different

To header is logical address of *receiver*.
Contact header is real address of *sender* who
send the SIP message.

				Hi,

If To header field denotes the
destination address then please explain me the difference of To header
field and Contact header field.

To header is always the final
destination in a point to point call.

But, Request URI may or may not change
with each hop depending on the routing used.(loose routing or strict
routing.

If loose routing is used , then Request
URI is same as the value of 'To'

If strict routing is used, Request URI
changes with each hop.

Please refer to rfc 3261 for more
details.

				Hope this is clear.

				Regards,

				Murgesh

				Can anybody explain the difference
between the usages of the To Header
and the Request-URI in the start line?
They both specify the destination
of the invite message, but which is used
to the real routing purpose?
And how the rest is used?

				Thanks,

				RFC 3665 would be sufficient.
