Thanks,

And, LLDP-MED is listed as a requirement for device side support in the
IETF ECRIT Emergency Call Services work. That's why I figured we'd need
to support it in the SF spec (along with a few others). In case anyone is
keen to look at this stuff, see (refs already sent to Larry):

o "Phone BCP", which actually covers more than just the phone part --
critical for SF doc
    http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-ecrit-phonebcp-01.txt

o ECRIT framework (shows how the pieces fit together)
    http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-ecrit-framework-01.txt

First one especially is worth a good read for scope of specific support
requirements. Second one gives the bigger picture, so may be worth a skim
first.

Cheers,
Peter Blatherwick
(oh, Editor LLDP-MED aka ANSI/TIA-1057)

BTW - I noticed Peter referred to LLDP-MED in one of his emails.
That related TIA standard is TIA-1057 (Telecommunications - IP Telephony
- Link Layer discovery Protocol For Media Endpoint Devices) if it ends
up getting referenced in the SIP
Forum recommendation (it is both an ANSI and TIA standard):

Sorry all - fat fingered and sent this too soon (as if we don't get
enough email without blunders like this). :-(

The published TSB in question is TSB-146-A Telecommunications - IP
Telephony Infrastructure - IP Telephony Support for Emergency Calling
Service

I don't have a link to that one yet on the TR41 free IP standards site
since TIA has not yet posted it there. The updated version A is the one
that's relevant to this group potentially.

So, as soon as I can get TIA to post it I will send out that link as
well.

Keep in mind that a TSB is not a standard - it's more or less a
technical report.
Hence, it's not as relevant as the other TIA phone standards, but I
would still like to see consistency with that TSB and what shows up in
this recommendation concerning endpoints and their location.

Regards,
Joanne

BTW - there is another potential impact to a published TSB as well for
emergency calling.
(depending on what comes out of this group for that section).

Hi all,

I figured others in the group may want the information on the related
TIA standards. They include requirements for SIP. We have been
monitoring the SIP Forum and waiting for this group to become active
before pursuing any additional updates to current versions.

Regards,
Joanne
Chair TIA TR41.4

Hi Larry,

My contact information is:
                 Joanne McMillen
                 AVAYA Inc.
                 joanne at avaya.com
                 +1.303.538.4060

Im attending this group from the standpoint of being the chair of the
following TIA group that has related specifications either already
published or pending publication.
TR41.4 VoIP Systems - IP Telephony Infrastructure and
Endpoints
The VoIP Systems Subcommittee develops standards and
Telecommunication Systems Bulletins (TSBs) to assist in the
development and deployment of IP Telephony Infrastructure and Endpoints.
The infrastructure documents promote performance and
other
criteria essential to the proper operation and
interconnection of
IP Telephony infrastructure components as well as their interfaces with
external networks. The Subcommittee extends the VoIP
Endpoints from basic telephony to the advanced feature level
and
seeks to promote the interoperability of these endpoints with
other
VoIP infrastructure equipment and applications such as call management
systems, routing systems and gateways. The Subcommittee also liaises
with other standards groups whose work affects elements within
the
VoIP Systems.
TR-41.4 also undertakes engineering tasks that
Engineering
Committee TR-41 may request such as maintenance of
existing
Multi-Line Telecommunications Systems (MLTS) standards.

The related standards are:
                 TIA-811-A (published)
Telecommunications - Telephone Terminal Equipment -
Performance
and Interoperability Requirements for Voice-over-IP (VoIP)
Feature
Telephones

http://www.tiaonline.org/standards/technology/voip/documents/TIA-811-A-f
inal-for-global.pdf

TIA-1003 (through ballot and pending update for
publication -
probably at year end) Telecommunications - IP Telephony
Equipment -
Requirements for a Wireless LAN Based
                 IP Telephony Endpoint

This is the pre-ballot working version:

http://ftp.tiaonline.org/tr-41/tr41.4/Public/2006-08-Montreal/TR41.4-06-
08-006-PN30103-TIA1003-SecondBallot.doc

TR41.4 may or may not need to issue new editions of these standards
based on what comes out of this SIP Forum phone group. It remains to be
seen how we would want to handle this to achieve consistency for the
industry.

Regards,
Joanne McMillen
Chair TIA TR41 Subcommittee TR41.4
