Larry, all,
This is good news. Thanks. As one of those "had to focus on IETF
activities" people, its good to see we can start moving in parallel again.
I will definitely participate, so please add me to the Initial
participants list.
(BTW, who are those lucky new volunteers ... so i can send condolences ;-)
Cheers,
Peter Blatherwick

Subject: Restarting IP-Phone Task Group - Conference Call
Planned
All,
The SIP Forum approved the SIP Phone Task Group about one year ago to
define SIP phone configuration guidelines, feature set descriptions and
interoperability guidelines. The group went quiet a few months ago when
lead authors had to focus on IETF activities (specifically developing "A
Framework for Session Initiated Protocol User Agent Profile Delivery").
However, we now have new volunteers willing to lead this effort and edit
the specification so SIP Forum is restarting this effort.
A kick-off meeting is tentatively planned for Tuesday, May 1, 10AM EST to
review task group charter, current status and next steps. Conference
details are as follows:
Date: Tuesday, May 1, 2007
Time: 10:00AM EST
Bridge: 1-218-486-1300, PIN 920441
Please let me know if you are interested in joining the call and/or
participating in this effort.
Kind regards,
Larry Schessel
SIP Forum Marketing Chairman
*** Following is a little more background to the task group ***
Background:
- Team charter and deliverables were approved (see attachment 1)
- Initial set of phone feature sets were identified (see attachment 2)
- The team got stalled when the configuration work began in the IETF.
While SIP Phone Task Group may be delayed from defining SIP phone
configuration guidelines until the IETF profile delivery framework is
solidified, there is still significant progress that can be made defining
SIP Phone feature set descriptions and interoperability guidelines from
the point of view of UA-to-UA and UA-to-Feature Server. SIP Phone
interoperability and characterization is an ongoing industry problem that
hinders wide-spread third-party SIP phone adoption and service take-rates.
By defining these items, SIP Forum will be helping the industry
significantly.
(You can also see the archives from previous discussions at
http://sipforum.org/pipermail/techwg/ . Consider reviewing by date, from
October 2005 forward)
Please join the call on Tuesday, May 1, 2007.
